The Photographic Clash

Description

Two photographers

One in a pedal boat in the middle of the Geneva lake,
The other on a ledge next to a lighthouse,
Both these men carry weapons
That freeze time
Among other things

Looking around
Preying for sights
To capture and freeze and manipulate
None arise
Both these men are stumped

As if by chance
Eye contact occurs
An eagle shreaks overhead
"What the bloody hell was that?"
Photographer number 1 asks
An eagle
replies the cinematographeure
The man in charge of this cheap Western flick

After eye contact these men realize
They're fate lies in a matter of milliseconds
Longer eye contact occurs
Immediately both men fiddle in their pockets
For their cameras,
Or god forbid, something else
Photographer 1 has grabs his camera first
Promptly shoots him

Photographer 2 flies right off the ledge
Landing 20 feet away in the water

The battle has been won!
Photographer 2 won't fight another day

This piece is like a self-reflection on the artist. Capturing another at work is almost like taking a picture of yourself through a mirror. Using such artistic composition and use of space really sets the bar and intrigues us as to what the pictured artist is trying to capture. Also makes me wonder whether he'll stumble across this piece and think "Hey that's me!" Which I know I would find pretty weird. The confused expression on the photographer's face intrigues us further as to what he might be thinking. As he found something and is figuring out a way to capture it? Is he confused that his latest photo hasn't come out right? Or is he just wondering why the hell someone else is taking a picture of him?

The vast use of space, particularly in the sky passes a feeling of loneliness and isolation. Is that possibly what this photo is trying to achieve? That artists go through life bettering their art at the expense of their relationships with others? Maybe, but it may just be demonstrating the amount of space an artist needs to be able to get in the zone.

This piece really speaks to me on many levels. The composition draws me in, the detail in the wall draws me in further. Before I knew it, I was already coming up with multiple interpretations, and at the end of the day, isn't that what art is about?
